Lead Teacher and Speech and Debate Coach Brian Jackson has been a consistent positive presence in the lives of hundreds of our students, both in DPS and the Cherry Creek School district. As an incredibly, warm and demanding teacher with high expectations, Brian exceeds in guiding young scholars in reaching proficiency in English literacy, with a specialized skill in culturally responsive reading strategies and supporting English Language Learners. Student Voice is one of the most powerful elements of school improvement when utilized and leveraged to make educational enhancements in a school or school system. This past fall student leaders Ariel Box and Khaaliq Stevenson used their voices to mobilize their school community and student body to advocate for equity and expectations in college programming. “We know students look up to us. Our parents have taught us to use our voices responsibly and to speak up when we think it’s important. When we came back to school at the beginning of the school-year we found out that we didn’t have counselors. Students needed help with selecting classes, preparing for NCAA clearing house and getting ready to graduate.”
